When I was a kid I loved this gooey, sweet paste. It may look unappetizing, but the taste was good enough for me to sneak into the kitchen and mouth a spoonful when everyone was asleep or away. I have been contemplating of getting this from the store for some time now and get back on a strict regime.
I remember having a spate of infections once. The allopathic doctor offered medicine and each time the infection went away. However, it seemed to come back, and the symptomatic cure of allopathic medicine didn’t help much in fixing the root cause.
Then one day as my grandma was chatting with neighbors, one of them narrated a similar problem in her house. Soon someone else chipped in and this discussion led to how allopathic medicine is useful for immediate relief, but rarely helps making your constitution strong. Well you can imagine how these old timers soon gravitated toward the wonders of Ayurveda and old-time home remedies. A long discussion began with the most common Ayurvedic medicine available in every household in India. Turmeric. Stories Turmeric for wounds and for cold infection and many other less discussed uses began to gather steam.
It wasn’t long before one of the ladies recommended Dabur Chyawanprash as the miracle drug to boost immunity, increase appetite and help fight these frequent infections – that kids always catch and bring home! So there it was. Decided. I was to go on a strict regimen of a spoonful of Dabur Chyawanprash until foreseeable future.
Immunity is key to good health. We move around in public places, touch various door handles, exchange keys, hold railings on public transport and offices. All these places are breeding grounds for germs and can infect you anytime. A strong immune system helps your body fight this onslaught of germs and keeps you fit. Chyawanprash’s unique blend of herbs make your ‘Natural Killer’ cells available to the body through various lymph nodes. These T cells are like firefighters that run to douse the fire as soon as one erupts, by stimulating the local lymph nodes.
So this enforcement of Dabur Chyawanprash was an acceptable alternative to getting infected all the time – the sweet, tangy taste helped too. The challenge now was to keep me away from that bottle of Dabur Chyawanrash. It is no surprise that after consistent use of this miracle paste the infections slowly became less frequent and boosted my appetite. Or it could just be a turn of season, but my faith in Ayurvedic medicine became quite entrenched with this experience. Don’t get me wrong. Benefits of allopathic medicine are undeniable, but chronic ailments with deep roots can get much better with a holistic approach.
I am off to get my bottle of sugar-free Dabur Chywanprash that has been central to our health discussion for some time.
