Ageism or age discrimination is a serious problem. A problem that has surfaced in the last decade as a result of rapid strides in how technology and business environment has changed the workplace. However, the author believes that people with experience are in a unique position to offer more than most of the younger workforce, if they sell themselves right. In Over the Hill But Not the Cliff, Lori Rassas talks about how age becomes a factor and how you can negate all the attributes related to your age to land that job.
Lori B. Rassas, Esq., is an SPHR-certified employment attorney with close to two decades of experience. She received an LL.M in Labor and Employment Law from New York University Law School; a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School; and a B.A. from Tufts University.

Summary and Review
The author begins with what employers are looking for and how perception is more important than the number in the Age column. She points out the various advantages that older candidates have over the younger workforce that is starting their life. She points out how same answers from people from different age groups can create opposite images and why older candidates need to be extra careful to make sure that their answers in the interview create an image of a vibrant and enthusiastic person.
Along with the overarching advice, the author also gives practical tips and tricks in tweaking your resume so that you do not draw additional attention to your age. In her very pragmatic style of writing, Rassas reinforces the
things that really matter and suggests that the candidates must accept new realities and work toward the most important goal – getting the job.
She points out that the work environment and style may have changed over the years and what you believe as part of work ethic may not be the same anymore. As Liza and Diana finds out in Younger, Bryce Reiger is the future of most workplaces and you need to adapt to their working style.
The book may seem to say a lot of things that were covered in her earlier book The Perpetual Paycheck, but this one is tailored to readers who haven’t had the need to look for a job in the last couple of decades. People who didn’t have to think about resumes, letters and job ads.
Over the Hill But Not the Cliff is the perfect guide for older candidates who are entering the hiring game after years. It not only covers the basics like how to prepare your resumes and letters, but also puts the reader in the right mindset. With countless scenarios, the author gives you answers to most situations that you will encounter during search and interviewing process and walks you through it in a step-by-step manner.
