Time Waits for No One

What is the guarantee? There is no guarantee. But we still keep putting off things to weekends, next week, sometime next month and such. While there are a hundred things that you want to do, there are also hundreds of limiting forces that force you to scratch things off the calendar. A lazy person like me always needed a reminder, and this couplet was always present to remind me of the scarcity of time.

[Do tomorrow’s work today, today’s now. The apocalypse will come in a moment, and you won’t get the time to do your work.]

It is a new year and the time for new resolutions. There are still 11 more months to at least start what I hoped to do in the last couple of years.

I have been putting this off for a long time. I didn’t give it much importance earlier. But as days have gone by, a professional family portrait is looking more and more important. So getting this done will be my first priority. To convince everyone at home, get them all to agree on a time and date to go to a photo studio and have that professional photo in place. Although this is something we should do every year, getting it done at least once is my immediate target.

Learning is a continuous activity that never stops and should never stop. The day we stop challenging ourselves to do something new, life becomes still and we stop to grow. I have heard that the ability to learn new language diminishes each year. So I am going to begin self-study of at least one foreign language this year.

And no New Year resolution can be complete without taking a pledge to shake-off our sedentary lifestyle and strive to become more active. Last year I read an amazing book by Josh Mathe about his superhuman effort as he conquered the 212-mile John Muir trail. This inspired me so much that I decided to start small runs and work toward running long distances at a decent pace.

I don’t know how many of these I will be complete this year. But I know I will start these without further procrastination.
