They say that the journey is more important than the destination. Now, we have people who believe that, and then there are those who live by that. Can’t-idates is a journal of people who are living by this belief.
Writing an essay about what you want to be when you grow up or even an essay about what you would do as a Prime Minister or President is something that is common across countries around the world – at least, democratic countries. I have done this and probably many of you too have, as ignorant kids.
But there are as many adults around who detest the political process of elections and scoff every time a leader says that she identifies with the masses and understands their problems. And to attest to this they also have some story where they spent a night here or there.
We know most of these candidates are spewing what they have been advised to say by their master strategist, a statistician, and a public relations consultant who are charging thousands of dollars to get their candidate elected. We think about this, discuss this situation, and lament how we do not really have a choice.
Craig Tomashoff tells you that you have a choice, that you have alternatives. Alternatives that are like average people, real people whose walk into Chipotle doesn’t become news. They are there only if you care to look. Take the effort to do your electoral duty and take the pains to really hear beyond the chatter that millions of dollars buy every election cycle.

As much as it is about voters having a choice beyond the big name presidential candidates, the book is also about what inspires these candidates to file their nomination. These people have been labeled loony, impractical, and even disturbed, but these are the people who have put the constitution to test.
There reasons are many, some of them want to tell their children and make them believe that anything is possible in America. Make them believe that there is nothing stopping them from becoming or running for the job of Commander in Chief.
Some others staunchly believe that they can make a genuine difference in the world if they become the President. That ‘s a lot better than some of us who sit on the couch and pontificate what’s right and wrong and how something should be done.
These are everyday folks who, in a way, believe this is their only chance to redeem themselves and change the world for the better. Join Craig Tomashoff as he travels across America from California to Vermont to meet these presidential candidates and interviews them. The author looks into the lives of these candidates, who perhaps would never make it to the ballots in most states, and shows us the world that for most of us doesn’t exist. He does this with a touch of humor, but also highlights how wrong the mainstream candidates are when they say that they know what America wants.
