The social media guru, although he doesn’t like the epithet himself, has come out with a new offering for social media Ninjas or to put it more blandly, social media power users. I am talking about @GuyKawasaki and @PegFitzpatrick ’s new book – The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users.
I was very excited by the sight of this book and was expecting to get some never before heard tips from the leading figures of social media. Guy Kawasaki is currently the chief evangelist for Canva (graphic design tool form Google) and has worked in similar position for other organizations such as Apple Inc. Peg Fitzpatrick is a social media strategist and has run successful campaigns for Google, Audi, and Virgin.
The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users
Authors: Guy Kawasaki, Peg Fitzpatrick
Hardcover: 208 pages
Publisher: Portfolio Hardcover (December 4, 2014)
ISBN-10: 1591848075, 978-1591848073
The book begins with quote from Douglas Adams the author The Hitchhikers Guide series: “The quality of any advice anybody has to offer has to be judged against the quality of life they actually lead”, hence my great expectations form the book were not unfounded.
The book is a 123-point long list post with sections marked as chapters that talk about everything from creating a useful profile on different networks, what to post, and how to get content to post on these networks. The authors then discuss the etiquettes of commenting and how to optimize your comments on different social networks.
If anything, social media is most widely used by businesses for promotion. The later points in the list talk about how to use the advanced features such as Google Hangouts or Twitter chats before and during an event.
You will get a few tips or about tools and resources intermittently that you haven’t read about before. I will say that the book’s subtitle should be Power Tips to become a Power user as anyone who has spent years on social media and is a power user will be aware of most of the things this book has to offer.
Having said that, anyone who hasn’t spent years on exploring social media for commercial purposes, the book will save you a lot of time searching the Internet for advice on little things about social media. For you, the book can be a ready reference manual to find an answer to common questions like, Should I buy followers? Or simple ones like, Do I call myself a Guru, Expert, or a Ninja?
The Art of Social Media is a quick reference guide that will give you tried and tested solutions to questions and problems that you are bound to face as you plunge into the social media universe.
